Iza loved people, loved nature, lived life with passion, inspired all around her and fought to leave the world better than she found it. On Sunday, April the 25th 2021, we said goodbye to our dear friend and colleague, advocate for a life lived in harmony with nature, and protector of wetlands and wild habitats - Iza Mier-Jędrzejowicz - with great sadness. Iza was 36 years old, she died after a long struggle with illness. Iza’s loved ones proposed to those mourning her that, instead of bringing flowers to the funeral, they could make a donation to support our wetland conservation efforts.
We remember Iza as an unusually cheerful, creative, strong and determined woman, who infected all around her with her smile, enthusiasm and her firm belief in the power to change the world. Thanks to her special gift of telling engaging stories about the things that mattered to her, she quickly won over friends and allies to her activities. She loved working in a group, supporting one another, creating shared plans for an ecological revolution and swiftly bringing those plans to life.
At the Wetlands Conservation Centre, Iza volunteered to protect endangered peatlands and also worked on a project that was to make people aware of the scale of the destruction of these ecosystems due to peat extraction. In the project, we were to popularise, among other things, replacing peat gardening substrates with compost. We learned from Iza that the protection of wetlands can begin with workshops on responsible food production or building a local composter. We did not manage to implement our joint plans. We declare that we will not give up on the subject - we will make every effort to transform this inspiration into action.
About the Foundation
Iza’s loved ones proposed to those mourning her that, instead of bringing flowers to her funeral, they could make a donation to support our wetland conservation efforts. We are sincerely thankful to them for their trust and support.
As part of donations transferred directly to the Association's account between the 28th of April and 6th of May, 2021, as well as within the framework of a separate collection organised by Iza's partner, Alex, intended for Iza's friends from outside Poland, we received 80 payments for a total amount of PLN 37,733.00.
The purpose of the Iza Mier Foundation is the acquisition of valuable natural wetland areas and the remembrance of Iza through their protection and transformation into public natural reserves.
What else?
(published on November 12, 2021)
In the five months since receiving the last payment to the Iza Mier Fund, we have managed to:
- select extremely valuable wetland lands for purchase and protection in the form of a social nature reserve,
- find the owners of the plots, establish contact with them and convince them to sell,
- contact land valuation experts and estimate the market value of the property,
- seek advice from notaries and KOWR employees and pave the way for the purchase of agricultural property for passive protection purposes by a legal person,
- successfully complete the procedure of obtaining a decision from the Director of the National Support Centre for Agriculture (KOWR), necessary for the purchase of agricultural property by a legal person,
- collect the documents necessary at each stage of the land purchase procedure.
We are currently finalizing the formalities related to the purchase of two plots with a total area of 2.34 ha in an extraordinary natural location.
What kind of area is it? Before the end of 2021, when the property officially becomes the property of the Wetlands Conservation Centre, we will provide more details about this wetland under our future care and protection.
CMok as an owner of land in the Rospuda Valley
(published on February 18, 2022)
In Poland, and in all of Central and Western Europe, the Rospuda Valley is the largest low flow peat bog preserved in a state approaching natural conditions. The decision to purchase plots in the Rospuda Valley marks the beginning of a new direction in CMok's activities, which is to secure valuable wetlands with a view to their permanent passive protection. We started with 3.49 ha in one of the most extraordinary marshes in our country, the protection of which has been part of our mission for almost 20 years.
