Aim of activities
|
|
|
The primary aim of the Coalition is the protection of wetlands, therefore the activities of the Coalition should be based on co-operation and the resolution of problems. It should also be characterised by the sharing of information, mutual understanding, and negotiation.
The Coalition's Programme Declaration states that; efficient lobbying and interventionist activities in a large part depend on the consolidation of efforts by the interested institution, organisation and persons.

Range of Activities

|
With the common-goals, including:
- co-ordination of priorities and strategic activities,
- participation in forming the Polish RAMSAR committee, with the inclusion of non-governmental organisations,
- initiating and promoting activities increasing the protection of wetland areas in the form of RAMSAR sites, national and landscape parks and reserves, as well as utilising communal and ecological forms of protection.
- preparing documentation for international reserves (RAMSAR, NATURA 2000, etc.), promoting and initiating wetland renaturalisation projects,
- consulting directly or through the media on government policies concerning wetlands, including proposing legal solutions and other tools for the initiation of policies,
- influencing political structures and decisions, including the future representation of Poland as a member of the European Union,,
- influencing legal solutions directly or indirectly related to wetland areas,
- monitoring the legality of economic activities related to wetland areas,
- organising participation in country-wide campaigns concerning the protection of the most valuable and strategic wetland areas, such as the central Vistula, the Oder and the Bug,
- distributing information about the natural values of wetlands (a wide-ranging environmental education),
- co-operation with centres of mass-media,
- advancing the development of scientific bases for the protection and sustainable development of wetland areas,
- obtaining the help of experts with the goal of promoting and initiating the dissemination of information related to the development of an inventory and an evaluation scheme of Polish wetlands,
- co-operation, especially in important local problems (including actions in situations of immediate local threats),
- mediation in matters of conflicting interests,
- obtaining legal aid,
- obtaining financial resources for larger programmes and their realisation.

Priority activities

- Lobbying wetland policy in Poland, encompassing:
- formulating a national strategy for wetland protection in Poland and co-ordinating strategic activities,
- uparticipating in the formation of the Polish RAMSAR committee, with the inclusion of non-governmental organisations,
- enforcing legal changes directly or indirectly related to wetland areas (from using forms of land stewardship for nature protection to the process of privatisation).
- The creation of a database about the actual state of wetlands, including:
- developing an inventory and evaluation scheme for all the wetlands in country,
- the identification of wetlands with high biodiversity and their threats,
- monitoring.
- Building co-operation between non-governmental organisations, scientists and public administration, including:
- undertaking common initiatives for wetland protection,
- consulting on government policies concerning wetlands, including proposing legal solutions and other tools for the initiation of policies,
- strengthening information exchange between members of the Coalition.
