Covering an area of 484,73 ha, the reserve was created by the power of the Voivodeship Authority of Lower Silesia on July 3, 2000. Protection includes all of the mires in the Izera Valley that to this time were still not protected. Together with the currently existing "Izera Mire" reserve, this protects more than 500 ha of continuous area on the Polish side. It borders with the Czech reserve of "Velká jizerská louka", which contains an area of over 200 ha. In all the entire complex of protected area on both sides of the border, when also including the protection zone of the Czech reserve, encompasses an area of nearly 1000 ha.
